Description: Agricultural and forestal districts provide a means for a mutual undertaking by landowners and local governments to protect and enhance agricultural and forestal land as a viable segment of the commonwealth's economy and as an economic and environmental resource of major importance. Landowners relinquish development rights of participating property parcels in return for increased protection and real estate tax benefits. All residents benefit from good stewardship of the land and from the reduced demand to extend urban public services into rural areas of the county.
